UCSF’s Center for Tobacco Control Research and Education, the Smoking Cessation Leadership Center at UCSF and UCSF Multiethnic Health Equity Research Center present It’s About a Billion Lives Symposium on Friday, April 26th, from 8:00am – 12:30pm PST. The Symposium will be held virtually and in-person at UCSF Robertson Auditorium (inside William J. Rutter Center), 1675 Owens Street, San Francisco, California.

Educational Goals

The symposium highlights current research advances in tobacco control from multiple disciplines.  The opening keynote panel includes national and international experts discussing strategies to end the tobacco epidemic, including tobacco policy approaches, product regulation and tobacco cessation strategies with an equity lens.  Scientific presentations will include the role of pharmacists in systems supporting tobacco cessation, impact of the changing policy environment for tobacco and cannabis, tobacco misinformation on social media, and efforts to reduce tobacco exposure and use among people experiencing homelessness.  The session also includes a multidisciplinary interactive poster session featuring current tobacco research at UCSF.


Learning Objectives

At the end of this activity, the participant should be able to:

  • Explain three key strategies to end today’s tobacco use epidemic
  • Describe two different strategies to improve equity in tobacco use and improve tobacco cessation in diverse populations.

Fees can be transferred to another activity in the case of mistaken enrollment.

Claiming your Credit

To obtain CME credit, participants must attend the entire webinar and complete a short evaluation survey.  Your certificate will be available immediately for print or download upon completion of the entire activity.  The estimated time to complete this live in-person or web activity is 4.50 hours, which is equivalent to 4.00 credits.

In support of improving patient care, the University of California, San Francisco is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.


Physicians: UCSF designates this live activity for a maximum of 4.00 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Nurse Practitioners and Registered Nurses: For the purpose of recertification, the American Nurses Credentialing Center accepts AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ issued by organizations accredited by the ACCME.

Physician Assistants: The National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) states that the AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ are acceptable for continuing medical education requirements for recertification.

California Pharmacists: The California Board of Pharmacy accepts as continuing professional education those courses that meet the standard of relevance to pharmacy practice and have been approved for AMA PRA category 1 credit™. If you are a pharmacist in another state, you should check with your state board for approval of this credit.

California Psychologists: The California Board of Psychology recognizes and accepts for continuing education credit courses that are provided by entities approved by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME). AMA PRA Category 1 CreditTM is acceptable to meeting the CE requirements for the California Board of Psychology. Providers in other states should check with their state boards for acceptance of CME credit.

California Behavioral Science Professionals: The University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine (UCSF) is approved by the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists to sponsor continuing education for Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSW), Licensed Clinical Marriage and Family Therapists (LMFT), Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) and Licensed Educational Psychologists (LEP). UCSF maintains responsibility for this program/course and its content. This course meets the qualifications for 1.00 hours of continuing education credit for LMFT's, LCSW's, LPCC's and/or LEP's as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. California Addiction Professionals: The UCSF Office of Continuing Medical Education is accredited by the California Consortium of Addiction Professional and Programs (CCAPP) to provide continuing education credit for California Addiction Counselors.
