This webinar will educate the primary care group about screening, diagnosis, and treatment of osteoporosis.
Course Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:
Identify appropriate candidates for osteoporosis screening by dual x-ray absorptiometry (DXA), and appropriate time intervals for repeat DXA screening
Identify the three ways in which one can establish the diagnosis of osteoporosis
Describe the recommended work-up for secondary causes of osteoporosis
Describe the initial approach to osteoporosis treatment based upon fracture risk
Discuss controversies in bone health treatment: Sequential therapy/Drug holidays
Identify high risk patients who would benefit from consultation with an osteoporosis specialist
