The audience will learn about the CMS required measure reporting by Inpatient Psychiatric Facilities on the Tobacco Use, Treatment, and Referral measures that were developed by The Joint Commission. The audience will learn about the perceived needs and organizational barriers as stated by survey respondents, including perceived lack of motivation by clients; lack of staff training; and scarcity of referral options. The audience will hear recommendations for continued clinical actions that can be taken by states and psychiatric facilities using organizational change approaches. The audience will learn about areas for future development based on missed opportunities (such as training of direct care staff in basic engagement of patients for tobacco cessation, collaborations with Quit Lines, visual aids for former tobacco users).
