14th Annual UC Davis Clinical Pharmacotherapy
Needs Assessment:
This activity is designed to increase knowledge and improve competence in the diagnosis, treatment and management of patients in the primary care setting. Course participant evaluations and our community physician annual needs assessment survey have identified the need for up to date information about various mood disorders which coexists with chronic medical conditions.

Course Objectives:
At the end of the activity, participants should be able to:
Describe the timing, co-morbid conditions, and contraindications that will affect the vaccine dosing schedule and product selection
Describe the advantages, challenges, and limitations of routine pharmacogenetic testing in current clinical practice
Review the core concepts centered around responsible opioid prescribing for chronic pain
Discuss the relatively new DSM 5 diagnostic criteria for somatization D/O
Assess common psychiatric disorders in a quick and evidence-based way
Discuss medication related problems that may affect older adults seen in primary care
Describe the key diagnostic features of unipolar and bipolar disorders
Describe the basic systematic approach to the pharmacological treatment of mood disorders in a medically ill
population
Describe how telemedicine can be used to enhance treatment for patients in the primary care setting
Define neuropathic pain and describe a logical approach to the treatment of this difficult pain presentation
