Fingers to the Toes
Musculoskeletal (MSK) symptoms are one of the most common reasons that patient's seek medical attention. This multidisciplinary course is designed to increase knowledge and improve competence and skills in diagnosis, management and treatment of common orthopedic clinic conditions seen in the primary care setting. The educational methods used include hands-on anatomical review workshops including work with cadaver specimens, joint injection practice and practival experience in casting and splinting techniques.

Activity Name: Fingers to the Toes
Description: Musculoskeletal (MSK) symptoms are one of the most common reasons that patient's seek medical attention. This multidisciplinary course is designed to increase knowledge and improve competence and skills in diagnosis, management and treatment of common orthopedic clinic conditions seen in the primary care setting. The educational methods used include hands-on anatomical review workshops including work with cadaver specimens, joint injection practice and practival experience in casting and splinting techniques.
Course Objectives:
  1. Demonstrate how to conduct a physical exam of the hand, wrist, shoulder, spine, hip, knee, ankle, and foot.
  2. Describe clinically relevant gross anatomy and evaluation of common orthopedic fractures and dislocations.
  3. Understand the screening and evaluation of pediatric and adolescent fractures and dislocations.
  4. Review the use of appropriate imaging modalities (Xray, MRIs) used in the diagnosis of orthopedic injuries.
  5. Synthesize a basis for the practice of delivering evidence based, cost effective orthopaedic care, both patient centered and population based.
  6. Demonstrate casting, splinting and taping of orthopedic injuries.
  7. Review and understand recommendations for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis.
  8. Identify techniques for the administration of joint and soft tissue injections.
  9. Recognize the role of orthopedic care in diverse patient population, including but not limited to diversity in culture, age, gender, disabilities and sexual orientation.
  10. Develop an understanding of economic and practice management challenges that can lead to strategies that protect continued access to care for patients with orthopedic injuries.
