Beyond BMI: Compassion, Community and Collaboration for Child Wellness
This interactive workshop is designed to support physicians as they complete mandated ACEs screenings and Hunger Vital Sign assessment. This program will connect physicians with resources to help mitigate issues identified in those screenings, using a strengths-based, family-centered approach to weight management. This workshop is organized through the San Diego County Childhood Obesity Initiative (COI), which is administered through the UCSD Center for Community Health (within the Altman Clinical & Translational Research Institute). COI, specifically within its Healthcare Domain working group, developed the curriculum based on feedback from a physician advisory committee and vetted presenters on this topic through a year-long evaluation process. This program will change learner skills by providing a fresh framework for engaging families and community resources that is culturally and linguistically appropriate, and by supporting physicians in engaging other members of their practice in a systems-based approach.
