Course Details
Needs Assessment:
The Fundamentals of Healthcare Quality Improvement Two-Day Workshop is geared toward clinicians, health professions students, residents, fellows, and healthcare staff who want to learn about how to design and implement a quality improvement (QI) project or initiative.
Course Objectives:
This workshop is an introduction to key principles of QI and patient safety. Topics included are basic QI methods and tools, root cause analysis of adverse events, measuring and comparing quality, design and implementation of QI initiatives, managing change, and teamwork and communication.
Online access to required pre-workshop readings is provided in advance. Prior to the workshop, participants should identify a health care quality or patient safety issue that they want to improve. During the workshop, participants will actively apply the methods and tools taught, and design an actionable and feasible QI project.
The course chair for this workshop is Ulfat Shaikh, M.D., MPH.
