Needs Assessment:
Planning Committee - a committee of psychiatric experts from throughout the state of California with experience in training primary care practitioners and healthcare professionals in the field of mental health.
Topics include: effectively screening for depression in a Primary Care setting; implementing evidence-based treatment for depression; identifying when it is appropriate to seek mental health consultation or referral.
Course Objectives:
In addition to the topics listed above:
1. Effectively screen for substance misuse
2. Utilize motivational interviewing to assess readiness for change, activate motivated patients along the continuum of change behavior
3. Engage mental health colleagues in collaborative care
4. Develop and/or adapt new models of care to integrate mental health into Primary Care settings.
