Needs Assessment:
This program provides a review and update of practical information for internists, family physicians, Infectious
Diseases specialists, nurses, pharmacists and others who manage patients with infectious diseases. Special features include:
Laboratory exercises designed to simulate clinical experience with the use of the microbiology laboratory and the management of cases seen in practice
Course Objectives:
At the end of the activity, participants should be able to:
Discuss and analyze concepts regarding the most important publications in infectious diseases
Define the issues regarding management of patients with HIV infection
Identify some of the common errors in antimicrobial use and how that interacts with antimicrobial resistance
Recognize the recent controversies in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of Clostridium difficile infection
Manage patients with chronic hepatitis C infection
Recognize the role of new antimicrobial agents for the treatment of multi-drug resistant bacteria and fungi
Define the role of newer diagnostic testing for infectious diseases
Assess the diagnosis and propose how to manage patients with nontuberculous mycobacterial infections
