Description:	1-day dermatology conference for PCPs in Irvine, CA
Needs Assessment:	Needs Overview: We have noticed a widespread need for better access to dermatology education for primary care providers. Some medical students receive very limited or no dermatology education during their medical school years. As such, they are ignorant about conditions that they can treat themselves (for example: acne, warts, benign keratoses, skin tags, eczema, and various rashes, etc) but tend to refer all patients with skin conditions to local dermatologists. Also recognizing this need from the university standpoint is our Interim President, University Physicians and Surgeons. He suggested that our department host a full day CME course geared toward teaching PCPs what not to refer to dermatologists and how to treat basic skin ailments. Observed Needs: UC Irvine University Physicians have noticed that the utilization of dermatology services is significantly higher than in other capitated groups. University PCP's are referring more patients for dermatology consults, than do other capitated PCP's. This has resulted in increased costs and lower reimbursement for our practice at a time when these patients would be easily treated in their primary care's office. These patients with uncomplicated ailments are filling appointments that could be booked by patients with more complex conditions, and those who need specialized care.
Course Objectives:	Objective: At the conclusion, participants should be able to recognize and manage uncomplicated skin diseases encountered in their clinical practice.
