Ethics and Professional Boundaries in Healthcare

NEEDS ASSESSMENT This course focuses on ethical theory, principles, and models for decision making that are most applicable for those who practice as healthcare professionals. There is a need to distinguish between law, morals, ethics, and etiquette; there is also an identified need for healthcare professionals to differentiate between personal and professional ethics and the delineated boundaries for each. Ethical dilemmas frequently arise as healthcare providers strive to consistently care for and treat their clients. Implications of ethical decisions are studied in relation to their varied legal, economic, and cultural dimensions. This program proposes to establish a foundational knowledge of personal and professional ethics and boundaries. By ascertaining this knowledge, participants should be able to discern the philosophical significance of the ethical situations they may face in the field of healthcare.

TARGET AUDIENCE This course is designed for professionals at all levels and settings in the healthcare industry. METHOD OF PARTICIPATION In order to receive credit, participants should read the entire monograph, complete and submit an evaluation and score at least 70% on the self-assessment test.
