7th Summit in Aesthetic Medicine
Stimulating 2-day conference in aesthetic medicine updates in Newport Beach, CA
Activity Details
Activity Name: 7th Summit in Aesthetic Medicine
Description: Stimulating 2-day conference in aesthetic medicine updates in Newport Beach, CA
Needs Assessment: Considerations:
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, over the next 16 years, the aging of the baby boomers will drive up the ranks of the native population at ages 65 and over and by 2030, one in five Americans is projected to be 65 and over. This population shift, along with an ever-increasing desire to embrace the value of good quality of life, has made aesthetic medicine a growing specialty. Social media has also had an effect an increase of aesthetic procedures, particularly facial rejuvenation. Major advances in procedures, techniques, and materials for facial and neck rejuvenation allows individuals to achieve a more youthful appearance.
Course Objectives: The American Society of Plastic Surgeon reported that 15.6 million cosmetic procedures, including both minimally-invasive and surgical, were performed in the United States in 2014, an increase of 3 percent since 2013. In addition, 5.8 million reconstructive surgery procedures were performed last year, up 1 percent. The use of fat in minimally invasive procedures is up 2 percent from 2013 to 2014. Minimally-invasive cosmetic procedures increased 4 percent, with more than 13.9 million procedures in 2014. Cosmetic surgical procedures rose 1 percent, to nearly 1.7 million procedures in 2014.
The aesthetic field has also seen an increasing demand for cosmeceuticals for men. In 2014, men had more than 1.3 million cosmetic procedures, 8% of the total. The top five surgical procedures for men were: nose reshaping, eyelid surgery, breast reduction in men, liposuction, and facelift. With such a wide variety of cosmetic treatment options, both surgical and nonsurgical, clinicians who practice aesthetic medicine need continual education and data to ensure proper and safe practices.
